Wenatchee Criminal History Records
Wenatchee criminal history records come from three main offices: the Wenatchee Police Department for police contacts and arrest reports, the Wenatchee Municipal Court for misdemeanor cases, and the Chelan County Superior Court for all felony matters involving Wenatchee residents.
Wenatchee Overview
Wenatchee Police Department Records
The Wenatchee Police Department Records Division processes public records requests for police reports, incident reports, and other law enforcement records generated by WPD officers. You can submit a request online, by mail, or in person at the Police Department. All requests are handled under the Washington Public Records Act, Chapter 42.56 RCW, and the Criminal Records Privacy Act, RCW 10.97.
Conviction records are public under RCW 10.97.050. Anyone can get them. Non-conviction data is restricted. That category covers arrests and charges where no conviction resulted and the case is closed. Under RCW 10.97.030 and RCW 10.97.080, non-conviction data may only go to criminal justice agencies, to the subject of the record, or to those the statute specifically allows. When a file contains both conviction and non-conviction data, the department redacts the non-conviction parts before handing over the record.
The city must respond to any public records request within five business days under RCW 42.56.520. The response may provide the records directly, give an estimate of when they will arrive, or deny the request with a specific statutory reason. You do not need to say why you want records. Fees cover only actual reproduction costs. For a comprehensive statewide conviction record, the WPD will refer you to the Washington State Patrol WATCH system.
Wenatchee Municipal Court
The Wenatchee Municipal Court handles misdemeanor criminal cases, gross misdemeanors, traffic violations, and city ordinance violations within Wenatchee city limits. First-offense DUI, simple assault, theft under $750, domestic violence misdemeanors, and most traffic matters come through this court. Every case produces a public record under Washington Court General Rule 31.
Court records can be accessed in person during business hours at the Municipal Court clerk's office. Cases are also searchable online through the Washington Courts Odyssey Portal. Chelan County participates in the Odyssey case management system, so Wenatchee Municipal Court cases appear in the statewide portal. The portal shows case summaries, party names, charges, and dispositions at no cost. For actual documents or certified copies, contact the court directly and pay the applicable copy fees.
The court provides forms and help for self-represented parties. If you need to find out whether a particular case exists in Municipal Court versus Superior Court, an Odyssey search will answer that quickly. Felonies go to Chelan County Superior Court. Municipal Court jurisdiction is limited to misdemeanors and city ordinance violations. That line matters when you are deciding which clerk to contact for records.
Note: Wenatchee Municipal Court handles misdemeanor and ordinance cases. Felony matters involving Wenatchee residents are held in Chelan County Superior Court.
Chelan County Superior Court Felony Cases
All felony cases involving Wenatchee residents are filed in the Chelan County Superior Court. The Clerk of Superior Court is at the Chelan County Courthouse, 350 Orondo Avenue, Suite 503, Wenatchee, WA 98801. Because Wenatchee is the county seat, the courthouse is within city limits. Public access terminals at the courthouse allow walk-in case searches. Office hours run Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Recent cases are searchable through the Washington Courts Odyssey Portal at no charge. The portal shows case summaries, docket entries, party names, and charge information. For actual case documents or certified copies, contact the clerk's office. Non-certified copies cost $0.50 per page. Certified copies are $5.00 for the first page plus $1.00 for each additional page per document. If you know the case number or party name, bring it. That speeds things up considerably.
For older cases that predate the Odyssey system, the Washington State Digital Archives may have Chelan County criminal records going back many years. The Eastern Regional Branch in Cheney serves Chelan County. Availability varies depending on what has been digitized. Some case types and time periods have better coverage than others, so it is worth checking what they have before assuming records are not available.
Chelan County District Court
The Chelan County District Court handles misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor cases from unincorporated areas of the county, traffic infractions, civil matters under $100,000, and small claims. The District Court is also at 350 Orondo Avenue, Wenatchee, WA 98801, in the same courthouse as the Superior Court. It serves Chelan County and the cities of Wenatchee, Chelan, and Cashmere.
Court records are public and may be accessed in person during business hours or through the Odyssey Portal for participating case types. For copies of specific documents, contact the District Court clerk with the party name, date of birth, case number if available, and the date of the incident. The clerk will tell you the applicable fees. Once payment is made, records are provided in your preferred format.
Chelan County Sheriff and Jail Records
The Chelan County Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement for unincorporated parts of the county and maintains arrest records, incident reports, and jail booking information. The Sheriff's Office is at 401 Washington Street, Wenatchee, WA 98801. The office operates the Chelan County Regional Jail in partnership with Douglas County. Public records requests go through the Sheriff under the Washington Public Records Act and RCW 10.97.
Conviction records held by the Sheriff are available to the public. Non-conviction data is restricted. If you are searching for records from unincorporated Chelan County, the Sheriff's Office is the right contact. For incidents within Wenatchee city limits, those records go to the Wenatchee Police Department. The two agencies hold separate records based on where incidents occurred and which officers responded.
City of Wenatchee Public Records
The City of Wenatchee Public Records office handles requests for all city government records beyond police materials. This includes city council meeting minutes, departmental correspondence, permits, and other administrative documents. Court records are handled separately by the court clerks. Police records go to the Police Department. The general public records office covers only city administrative files.
Under RCW 42.56.520, the city must respond to any records request within five business days. Responses may provide the records, give a timeline estimate, or deny the request with a specific cited reason. You do not need to explain why you want the records. Fees are limited to actual reproduction costs. Electronic delivery is cheaper than paper and is preferred when available.
Statewide Background Checks Through WSP WATCH
The fastest and most complete way to get a statewide conviction record for a Wenatchee resident is the Washington State Patrol. The WATCH system (Washington Access to Criminal History) delivers online results right away for $11.00 per search. You pay by credit or debit card and get results immediately. WATCH draws from a fingerprint-linked statewide database, which makes it more accurate than a name-only search, particularly when a subject has used multiple names or has a common name.
Mail requests cost $32.00 for a name-based search or $58.00 with a fingerprint card for a more precise match. Mail requests take 7 to 10 business days to process. You can also appear in person at the WSP office at 106 11th Ave SW Suite 1300, Olympia, WA 98501, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Full instructions are at the WSP Criminal History Records page. A notarized background check letter is available for an extra $10.00 if documentation is needed for a specific purpose.
WATCH shows conviction records and arrests under one year old with pending dispositions. Non-conviction data older than one year does not appear in public searches. To review your own full record including non-conviction data, visit the Olympia WSP office at no charge. You have up to thirty minutes and must bring a valid government-issued photo ID. Identity confirmation through fingerprinting may be required.
Note: WATCH public searches return conviction data only. Non-conviction data is restricted under RCW 10.97 and does not appear in general public search results.
Conviction vs. Non-Conviction Data
Washington's Criminal Records Privacy Act, RCW 10.97, separates records into two categories. Conviction records, meaning cases ending in a guilty plea, verdict, or other adverse finding, are fully public under RCW 10.97.050. Anyone can request them. No reason is needed.
Non-conviction data covers cases where no conviction resulted and the case is closed. Under RCW 10.97.030 and RCW 10.97.080, non-conviction records may only go to criminal justice agencies, to the subject of the record, or to those specifically permitted by law. If an agency holds a file that mixes both types, it must redact the non-conviction portions before public release. This rule applies to Wenatchee Police records, Municipal Court files, Chelan County court records, and the Sheriff's Office equally.
To dispute errors in your own record, submit a Request for Modification of Record Form to the Washington State Patrol. If the challenge is upheld, the Criminal History Records Section corrects the record. Procedures for deleting old non-conviction data are in RCW 10.97.060, which sets waiting periods and other conditions. Legal help is worth seeking if you want to pursue that process.
DOC Inmate Search and Sex Offender Registry
To find a Wenatchee resident currently incarcerated in a Washington state prison, use the Department of Corrections Incarcerated Search. The database shows name, DOC number, age, and current facility. For release dates or supervision conditions, contact DOC directly. Federal inmates are not in this database; use the Federal Bureau of Prisons website for those cases.
For registered sex offenders in Wenatchee, the statewide registry is maintained by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. Access it at WASPC Sex Offender Information. Class A sex offense convictions require lifetime registration. Class B requires fifteen years of registration. Class C requires ten years. Under RCW 9A.44.130, offenders register in person at the Sheriff's Office in their county of residence. For Wenatchee residents, that means the Chelan County Sheriff's Office at 401 Washington Street.
Chelan County Records
All Wenatchee felony cases and county-level records are managed through Chelan County. Visit the Chelan County Criminal History page for details on the Superior Court, District Court, Sheriff, jail records, and the Odyssey case search system.
